When you’re working a program that requires a large amount of overhead work, whether it’s presses, snatches or clean and jerks, the right warm up is critical.

Overhead work requires the shoulders to be properly mobile first. Second, the stabilizers associated with the shoulder need to show up and do their job. If the stabilizers are underactive, you will put stress into your neck and traps. If this starts happening you’ll likely get muscle strain and you won’t be able to continue your planned program.

Besides soft tissue work, this bottoms up pressing series is a great warm up for overhead work. It’s simple, quick and efficient. It only takes one time per side. And most importantly, if done correctly this warm up will get your lats to show up and do their job during your overhead work.

Try it out! Let me know if you have questions!
